10/19/2016 - Drawing Critique "Memorable Chinese Architecture"

Memorable Chinese Architecture
Design I 2016
By Ying Yang

Description:

  • In the work I see a traditional Southern Chinese architecture, which was how most Southern Chinese cities architecture looked like, before the Chinese government have attempted to combine traditional Chinese design into modern architecture.
  • I would describe this work as a memory of Chinese history, because as the time moves on, lots of the traditional Chinese architecture has been destroyed, and it has really been a memory for China.
Analysis:
  • With this work, I used the elements of line, shape, space, form, texture, and color.
  • The principles of this work are rhythm, balance, variety, emphasis, unity
Interpretation:
  • This piece is about that Chinese architectures are truly the legacy of Chinese history, even though most Chinese cities' architectures are similar to Western style now, but the traditional Chinese architecture is still memorable.
  • The title fits with the photo very well.
  • Pretend like if i climb inside the painting, the environment of the painting would make me feel very calm and comfortable, and also the traditional Chinese architectures are very simple, it won't make me feel depression as now most fancy buildings in the cities make me feel.
  • I would agree with the medium and the color, hundred years ago, most Chinese people like to use red color to decorate their house, like the door or railing, because red represents lucky. And the old architecture would only use gray or white color.
  • The date makes a big different, because you would see these kinds of architecture very easily back in hundred years ago, but now days you can barely find a spot with this traditional designs due to the modernize.
Judgment:
  • I would like people to see this picture, because it is always nice to introduce the Chinese culture to different culture backgrounds' people, and help them to understand a little bit more about China.
  • If I owned this picture, I will buy a frame and hang it at my house, so whenever friends visiting me I'll show them and introduce this picture to them.
  • The rememberable thing about this picture is that seeing people back in the time try to enjoy their lives with a calm pace, unlike now days people in the cities moving so fast try to catch up with times.

Photoshop Shapes and Patterns

10/17/2016 - Finished Coloring

Finally finished coloring this drawing.
Before Chinese cities were modernized, most of the cities in southern part of china looked like the picture i drew above. Chinese people liked to use red color on their house or building, because red represents lucky in china.
And back in hundred years ago, most people in china were using gray color to build the building or bridge, that's why the main color of the picture is gray.
